Some notes - the J. B. Kennedy Family History
Photo: J.B. Kennedy and his wife Mary Edith Colvin Kennedy,
taken on their wedding day, 31 January 1857 in Marion County Iowa.
(The picture was scanned in 2 pieces because it is so large. I have the original. It is very old and fragile. - Lynn)
Sometime that year, they moved to Plattsmouth, NE and also that year gave birth to
Loren Volney Kennedy. (My father, Volney Robert Moon was named after Loren.)
Mary's parents were William Colvin (1803-1882) and Mary Richey (1812-1867). They went to Nebraska with the Kennedy's. I have gotten most of my information from the Cass County web pages. I am trying to piece this family together, but it is not easy.
We know nothing about JB's family. However, an Ezekiel Kennedy moved to Plattsmouth, NE the same year.
I'd bet anything that they were brothers! We know that JB is from Kentucky, but not where in Kentucky.
Additional information about Mary Edith Colvin Kennedy can be found in "Breaking of the Prairie"
by Grace Vallery, The Nebraskan, 1966.
