Nebraska Schools

Even as our ancestors struggled to establish homesteads, they realized the importance of educating future generations. By the time Nebraska had achieved statehood, there were schools not only in towns but many rural schools dotted the countryside as well, built to educate the children who lived too far from town to attend schools there. Thus began Nebraska's version of the country school. Most of our Nebraska ancestors were educated in these tiny, one-room structures, and were taught by sincere, hard-working individuals, many of whom devoted their lives to the proper education of "their" children.
