Jeremiah Kellerhouse joined the Civil War effort in
Livingston, Columbia, NY., by enlisting on 26 September 1862, enrolled
as a Private, in Company I ,159th Infantry Regt of the New York
Volunteers, Unit #1428, commanded by Captain Charles Baker. Jeremiah
died of Typhoid fever, 18 Sept 1863, in the Regimental Hospital in
Thibodeaux, Louisiana. Burial place undetermined.
Jeremiah Kellerhouse served proudly for the Union
Forces, State of New York, Unit 1428, with distinction. He was given a
Distinguished Service award.
Eliza, wife of Jeremiah Kellerhouse, filed a petition to the court for a
widows pension, while having four dependent children, Hanna, Lester,
Elizabeth, and Orville. She was awarded $8.00 a month, beginning 18 Sept
1863.
