JOHN JEREMIAH POUCHER

     John Jeremiah POUCHER was Born October 22, 1823 to parents Jacob A. Poucher and Eva Finger, and baptized Dec 21, 1823 at Churchtown Lutheran Church.  He was enlisted in Company E, 159th Reg't, N.Y. Infantry on Sept. 17, 1862 at Ghent, NY.  He was described as being 38 years old; 5' 7" in Height;  fair Complexion; Blue Eyes; and Light Hair.  John Poucher married on Dec. 29, 1858 to Angeline M. Mead, both of Ghent, at the Parsonage of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghent.  He was mustered out of the Army Oct. 12, 1865 at Augusta , GA..  After his return to Civilian Life John filed for a Disability Pension claiming various ailments contracted while in Service.  It appears this pension request was denied.  John J. Poucher died Aug 4, 1888 and is buried in Austerlitz, N.Y. Cemetery.   (Note:  John J. Poucher was a brother to Kenneth P. Pouchers Great Great Grandfather, James Monroe Poucher.)
