AULTMAN ATHERTONByesville Aultman C. (Pete) Atherton, 85, of Main avenue died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday [Aug.5, 1967] at Mansfield General Hospital after an illness of two years. He had been residing with his daughter, Elizabeth, in Mansfield for the past few months. Born March 20, 1882, in Old Washington, he was the son of C.H. and Sadie Woodburn Atherton. He was co-owner of Gregg-Atherton Ford Agency in Byesville for 20 years and operated a Texaco station for 25 years. He was a member of Main Avenue Methodist Church and Byesville Lodge 654 F&AM. Surviving are his widow, the former Maude DeVold; two daughters, Mrs. Martin (Elizabeth) Nagel of Mansfield and Mrs. Charles (Jane) Conrad of Fairborn; one son, A.C. Atherton Jr. of Springfield; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One daughter and one sister are deceased. Friends may call at McGaughy Funeral Home 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Howdy House officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. today. Granddaughter's note: 2002 September 24: Re: "Aultman Clegg Atherton Sr.'s obit. He was my grandfather. The obituary incorrectly lists one of his daughters as Mrs. Charles (Jane) Conrad. She was my mother and her correct name is Jessie E. (Atherton) Conrad who married Charles R. Conrad. A correction was not made at the time the obit was published in the newspaper."
