Ms. Schuldt, a 1974 graduate of UW- Eau Claire, is the medical librarian at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. Mr. Jarocki graduated from District One Technical Institute, Eau Claire, in 1972. He is an accountant and Menards, Inc., Eau Claire.

A May wedding is planned.

Charles Budrus, 91, died Friday, January 24, 1975 at the Thorp Care Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 28, 10:30 a.m., at St. Hedwig’s Chapel. Burial was made in New St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.

Wayne Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Armand Miller, Route 2, Withee, is the recipient of the Charles A. Laakso Memorial Scholarship.

This award has been established as a memorial to the late Charles A. Laakso, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arne Laakso, Route 2, Owen. Wayne is a pre-med student at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Miss Nutarch is a 1971 graduate of Washington High School, Washington, Kansas, and a 1973 graduate of NCWA Vocational Technical School, Bedoit (?), Kansas. She is presently employed with ITT Life Insurance Corporation, Thorp, Wisconsin. Her fiancé is a 1968 graduate of Stanley-Boyd High School, Stanley, Wisconsin. Her served in the Armed Forces from1968 – 1969 (?), and is presently self-employed in farming near Thorp.

An April 5, 1975 wedding is being planned.

Soderberg, Mary (25 Mar 1892 – 23 Jan 1975)

Mrs. Mary Soderberg, age 83, a lifelong resident of Thorp, died of heart failure January 23, 1975 at
Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.

Mary was born March 25, 1892 in Thorp, the daughter of John and Barbara Velcheck on October 30, 1914. She married Arthur Soderberg at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church Thorp, and they farmed on the family farm until moving to the city of Thorp in 1961.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Hastreiter, Woodruff, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Doug Cleary, Alexandria, Virginia; two sons, Gerald, Rockford, Illinois, Pat, Thorp; one sister, Mrs. Clara Schweingruber, Crown Point, Indiana; seventeen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Burial took place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Thorp.

Penk, Martin (11 Nov 1883 - 17 Jan 1975)

Martin Penk, 91, died at the Thorp Care Center January 17, 1975 of old age infirmities. Mr. Penk, a retired farmer, was born in Krasnik, Poland, November 11, 1883. He was married in Poland in 1905 and came to the states in 1906.

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Chapel on Monday, January 20, 1975, with Father Buckman officiating at the 10:30 a.m. services. Burial was made in St. Hedwig’s new cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Penk, Michigan, James Penk, Leonard Wisniewski, Timothy Oberecki, Thomas Oberecki, all grandsons of the deceased.

Surviving are three sons, John and Anton of Thorp, Joseph of Lublin; two daughters, Della Wisniewski, Thorp (Valeria ) Mrs. Dave Slowensky of Minneapolis, 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his wife in July of 1970, and two sons, Chester and Bruno.

Ebben, Leo R. (4 Aug 1903  - 25 Jan 1975)


Leo R. Ebben, 71, of 529 Church Street, Kohler, a retired Industrial Arts teacher, died Saturday evening at home.

Born on August 4, 1903 at Thorp, he was a son of the late George and Antonette (Ver Kuilen) Ebben.

He graduated from Thorp High School, Oshkosh Normal School, and Stout University.

Mr. Ebben taught at Brillion from 1923-24 and came to Kohler in 1925, where he taught industrial arts until his retirement in 1969.

On December 10, 1927 he married Winifred Hudson in Dubuque, Iowa.

He was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, Kohler, and its Holy Name Society. He also was a member of the Sheboygan County, Wisconsin and National Retired Teaches Associations, and a life-member of the Wisconsin Industrial Education Association, of which he was a past president.

Survivors include his widow, a daughter, Mrs. Lowell (May Ellen) Sweet, Elkhorn, a son, Leo, Whittier, California, five grandchildren, five grandchildren and two brothers, Lester, Fort Atkinson, and Delton, Thorp, and a sister, Mrs. Irvin Primeau, Abbotsford.

A sister and three brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. John Church, Kohler, preceded by a brief family time at the Hoehne Funeral Home, Sheboygan Falls at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Louis Wilimek, pastor, was the celebrant. Burial was in Kohler Cemetery.

Irene graduated from Thorp High School and is presently employed at Badger Metter, Inc., Brown Deer. Jim, a graduate of West Bend East High School, is employed at Kickhaefer Manufacturing Company, Grafton.
