Driver Training Courses Offered in High Schools

Driver education and driver training courses in Wisconsin high schools are benefiting more then 7,500 students during the present school year, R. C. Salisbury, director for the safety division of the State motor vehicle department, announced today.

A course designed for teaching high school students was outlined last fall by the safety division of
the State motor vehicle department in co-operation with the State Department of Public Instruction and several national safety organizations.

Twenty-four high schools began work in the field during the first semester of the 1941 - 42 school year.  Seventy-seven schools will offer such work during the second semester.  This brings to 101 the total number of schools whose driving courses have been approved by John Callahan, State superintendent of public instruction and Hugh M. Jones, commissioner of the motor vehicle department.

Driver education courses have been started or will soon start in high schools in Abbotsford, Colby, Dorchester, Rib Lake, and Spencer.

Road training under home supervision in addition to class work is planned for high schools in Athens, Boyd, Cadott, Greenwood, Neillsville, Stanley and Thorp.
