Kirkland, Standish (1891 - Jul 1901)
On Wednesday Mrs. Jessie Kirkland arrived in Neillsville, Clark County from Washington D.C., bringing the body of her little son Standish for burial in Neillsville cemetery at the side of his father Chas. Kirkland, who died about eight years ago. The boy was about ten years of age, a bright lad, the pride and hope of his mother. Mrs. Kirkland, formerly Jessie Campbell, was brought up in this city and many of her relatives and old friends here offer sympathy in her distress. Within a few years she has lost mother, husband and son. Since her husband's death she has engaged in teaching in the public school of the city of Washington.
The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at R.M. Campbell's. Rev. W.T. Hendren of Greenwood, an old friend of the Kirkland and Campbell families, preached the funeral sermon. Many flowers were brought by symapthetic friends to bedeck the little coffin and grave.
