Best, Mary (8 Oct 1821 - 22 Augl 1903)
*Mrs. Mary Best of Kiel, Wis., who was here (Neillsville, Clark County) for a short visit with her granddaughter, *Mrs. H.H. (Clara) Eberhardt, met with an accident last Saturday night which resulted in her death. Mr. and Mrs. Eberhardt with a few friends, were sitting in the evening in front of the furniture store, and unobserved by them, the old lady went back into the store, opened the door leading to the elevator, which being upstairs, caused her to step off into the basement. Several bones were fractured and she survived only two hours. Every precaution had been taken to prevent just such an accident, some articles of furniture being placed so that she must have moved them in order to reach the door. Deceased was 82 years of age and had been on a visit with relatives near Thorp, and expected to return to her home Monday with her granddaughter Miss Fricke. Mr. Eberhardt accompanied the remains to Kiel Monday.
