My Smith crew is
primarily in Juneau County and as I understand many are buried in
Mauston with the Heath family. A monument has the Heath names on
one side and the Smiths on the other, (Oakwood Cemetery). One
daughter did live in Horicon. The obit for Jefferson Heath came up
when I was searching for some info on the Beaver Lake Lumber Co.,
of which he was an investor. I Think my Ben Smith May have eloped
off to Barron County to escape the "ostracism" from the families of
Heaths and Smith for having married a poor Norwegian girl with a
baby about to be born. If Jeff Heath had a lumber mill in the area
it explains perhaps why Ben and Carrie went to Barron County. If I
can connect any of the Smiths in Clark County with my crew, I will
be sure to let anyone know. My ancestors came to this country very
early and I have fairly well documented them from the first
American immigrant Frances Smith who came here in the early 1600's
to myself. John Smith was the first Wisconsin settler of my family,
having come to Wisconsin in abt 1854.
Again Thank you, Stan! Paul Smith
