Wells, Alice E. (Marriage - 24 MAR 1903)
A copy of the Marengo, Ill. Republican is before us which contains a notice of the marriage of Edgar P. Houghton to Miss Alice E. Wells of Coral, Ill. on March 24, 1903. After giving particulars of the wedding the article says of the contracting parties:
"She who was formerly Miss Wells, has lived in Marengo and Coral for a number of years; she was graduated from the Marengo High School and possesses brilliant intellectual power and a warmth of manner which has greatly endeared her to a large number of friends.
Mr. Houghton's former home was at Humbird, Clark County, Wis. For the past year he has been traveling throughout the west, visiting friends and enjoying his travels greatly. For four years previous to the time he was County Treasurer of Clark County, Wis., residing at Neillsville. In this capacity he enjoyed the esteem and confidence of the people and discharged his numerous duties faithfully and well. He was a soldier of the Civil war, enlisting when very young.
Mr. and Mrs. Houghton have the best wishes of many Marengo friends for a great deal of happiness in their future life. They will be at home in the Franz Metcalf house in Marengo, after April 15, 1903.
