Death of Lewis L. Ayers Lewis

L. Ayers died at his home in this city on the 28th of Sept. at 2:30 p.m. of heart failure after a lingering illness of several months, of which he was a patient sufferer.

Deceased was born in the town of Columbia, Bradford Co., Penn., Jan 8, 1832 came to Wisconsin and settled in Neillsville in the year 1855, where he has since resided. He was married to Elizabeth Miller, May 18, 1860. His wife still survives him and also five children, to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father. His sons are Frank, Charles and Ernest Ayers and daughters Mrs. L. Brillion of Lac du Flambeau and Mrs. M. F. Beaulieu of Niellsville.

The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Sunday at 2 p.m., Rev. W.T. Hendren who was an old friend and brother Odd Fellow, officiating. The funeral was conducted by the Odd Fellows of which he had been a member for about 35 years.

He has for the past 40 years been surveying and estimating timber throughout Wis., and has been the county surveyor several times. His death, though to be expected from the nature of his illness, came very suddenly. He had just walked out doors, and on returning, sat down iin his chair and began to quote some lines of poetry about the feebleness of age, when death came. He was one of the oldest pioneers of this city, whose number is becoming smaller each year, one who added his labor and endured hardships to develop this community, and to whom the present generation owes much.

Mrs. Ayers and family wish to thank neighbors and friends for thier kindness, especially the Odd Fellows for their fraternal assistance. The givers of flowers are especially remembered.
