Nichols, Elizabeth (17 Jul 1850 - 17 Feb 1904)
The citizens of this community were saddened Thursday morning when it was learned that Mrs. W. H. Nichols had passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 17th, at 7:40 o'clock.
Elizabeth Hawks Nichols was born in Illinois July 17, 1850. She came to Wisconsin when quite young and lived in Neillsville, Clark County. May 9, 1878, she was married to W.H. Nichols at the latter place. They moved to Phillips in 1881, and have lived here almost continuously since. Mrs. Nichols was a woman of rare attainments, kind and helpful in the time of need; a faithful Christian; one of whom it might be said that the world is better for her having lived. She leaves a sorrowing husband and two children, a girl and a boy, to cherish the memory of a faithful wife and a loving mother. Two sisters, Mrs. Thos. Walsch of Neillsville, who was present here during her sickness, and Mrs. Katharine Heffron of Fairhaven, Wash.; also three brothers, Richard and James of Washburn, and Henry of Neillsville.
The funeral was held from the Catholic Church Friday forenoon at ten o'clock and interment at the Phillips Cemetery. The bearers were M. Barry, C.C. Kelleher, W.P. Sparry, B.J. Nutter, E.W. Murray, Nelson Nolan and O.J. Johnson.
The entire community joins in sympathy with the bereaved husband and children. (The Bee, Phillips, Wis.)
