Simpson, Fred (4 Feb 1869 - 7 Sep 1905)
Fred Simpson died Thursday morning at 2 o'clock, Sept. 7, 1905, less than two days after his arrival from California. He had long been afflicted with the dread disease consumption, his strength slowly declining, until the end came. He was born in Richland Co., Wis., Feb. 4, 1869, and came to Neillsville, Clark County about 17 years ago, working for a time in a confectionery store and later as salesman in Kerns and Johnson's clothing house, where he remained for about 12 years. His faithfulness, courtesy and accommodating manner made him a general favorite with all who met him. He was married to Bertha Kurth Aug. 19, 1899. In Jan. 1902 they decided to go to California in hopes that the change in climate might improve his health. The Eilerts gave him employment at Fresno as superintendent in one of their departments and were very kind and helpful to him and as long as he was able to work he served his employers faithfully. He continued to decline in health however, and returned here for a visit last winter, going back to California in February, receiving little benefit from either change. The funeral was held at the M.E. Church Sunday, Rev. G.W. Campbell officiating. To the bereaved wife is extended the sympathy of the entire community.
