Kerns, Ellen B. (12 Mar 1843 - 6 OCT 1905)
Mrs. Thos. Kerns died at her home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County) Oct. 6th, 1905.
She was born in Aroostock Co., Maine, March 12, 1843, her maiden name being Ellen B. Finnegan. Oct. 5, 1867 she was married to Thos. Kerns and the following April they moved to Neillsville and have lived here ever since.
Besides her husband she leaves two sisters, Mrs. C.S. Dean and Miss Cassie Finnegan; also two nieces and a nephew. A son died in 1888, when a young man, and was her only child.
As a near neighbor for several years, the writer can speak from personal knowledge of the kindness of the deceased, of her high character as a woman and the esteem in which she was held by all who knew her. The funeral was held Tuesday at the Catholic Church, Rev. J.L. Hauck officiating. The headings of his tribute epitomizes the character of the deceased: " A model wife, faithful, true and devoted; a model neighbor, peaceful, charitable, grateful; a model Christian, firm, steadfast and active."
