Gergen, William (25 Apr 1823 - 19 Dec 1905)
William Gergeen died at his home on the North Side (Neillsville, Clark County) Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1905, having been in feeble health for some time. He was born in Germany April 25, 1823; came to America with his parents in 1847, and lived in Fond du Lac Co. He was married to Elizabeth Bauchop Feb. 5, 1856, in Racine Co. She, with eight of their children, survives him. The children now living are William A. of Brainerd, Minn., Mrs. H.W. Visgar of Loyal, Mrs. Henry Carleton of York, Mrs. Francis Furlong and Mrs. Chas. Withee of Minneapolis, Alfred now of Brainerd, Elwood and Vernie living at home.
Mr. Gergen enlisted in Co. H. 35th Wis. Infantry and served with bravery, being mustered out Feb. 4, 1866. He was an honored member of the G.A.R. post of this city.
After coming out of the army he bought a farm in the town of Grant, Clark County, where he lived with his family till five years ago when he moved to Neillsville. Among those who mourn his death are his many old friends, neighbors, and comrades. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved family.
The funeral will be held at the M.E. Church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W.P. Burroughs officiating.
