Kelpe Infant son (Oct 1905 - 23 DEC 1905)
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Kelpe died Dec. 23, 1905, aged a little over two months. The funeral was held at the German Lutheran Church Tuesday, Rev. Brandt officiating. Mr. Kelpe is the teacher in the Lutheran School (Neillsville, Clark County) and he and his wife have the sympathy of all his pupils, patrons and many other friends.

Harder, Henry (11 March 1889 – 20 May 1984
Henry Harder, 95, who was a native of Switzerland and longtime Christie area
farmer, died on Sunday morning, May 20, at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.
The deceased was born on March 11, 1889, in Horgen, Switzerland, to Heinrich and
Hanna (Odermatt) Harder. He received his education in Europe and worked as a
weaver and machinist for several years in Switzerland. He also served in the
Swiss Army during World War I.
In 1921, he moved to the United States, settling in the Neillsville area. Three
years later he married Elsie Hediger in April 26, 1924, in Neillsville
ceremonies. The couple farmed in the Christie area until he retired in 1957.
About two weeks ago, Harder took up residence at Neillsville Memorial Home due
to failing health.
Harder was a member of the Neillsville United Church of Christ and sang in its
choir for many years. He was also active in many other community organizations
over the years.
Surviving him, besides his wife, are five sons, Henry of Manitowoc, Bennie of
South Beloit, Illinois, Rene of Christie, Hans of Greenwood and Alan of Kenosha;
a sister, Mrs. Hanna Hediger, Neillsville; 20 grandchildren; and nine great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, May 23, from the Neillsville
United Church of Christ with the Rev. Gary Clark officiating. Music was offered
by Phillip Harder, James Voss and Deon Spangler. Burial was made in the Town of
Weston Cemetery with Tim, Robin, David, Bruce, Paul and Grant Harder as
pallbearers. The Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Kuzjak, Victor (17 April 1933 - 17 May 1984)
Victor Kuzjak, who made his home at Rt. 1, Neillsville, took his own life on
Thursday morning, on his birthday, May 17.
Funeral services were held on Saturday morning, May 19, for Victor Kuzjak, from
Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Lynn. The Very Rev. Nickolai Hodynski
officiated at the service with the Gesche Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
The deceased was born on April 17, 1933, in the Ukraine to Paul and Olena (Jahn)
Kuzjak. He received his education in Ukraine and German schools. In 1949, he
moved with his parents to Troy, Pennsylvania, where he completed his education.
He then moved to Chicago with his parents, working there until 1963. At that
time the family moved to the Neillsville area.
Kuzjak worked for Weyerhaeuser of Marshfield for several years. Since 1967 he
farmed in the town of Pine Valley. Kuzjak never married.
Surviving him, besides his mother, are two sisters, Mrs. Daviod (Helen)
Greenfield and Mrs. John (Maria) Dorsey of Eau Claire; and two brothers,
Valentin of Marshfield and Mick of Chicago. He was predeceased by his father.

Lange, Meta M. (14 August 1895 – 18 May 1984)
Meta M. Lange, a former Town of Seif farmwife, died in Neillsville Memorial
Hospital on Friday, May 18. She was 88 and had been a resident of Memorial Home
for the past several years.
Mrs. Lange was born on August 14, 1895, in the Town of Seif to Herman and Lena
(Hein) Dux. She received her education in Seif schools and then worked in
Neillsville prior to her July 28, 1915, marriage to Frank Lange. The couple
farmed in the Town of Seif for many years, retiring in 1958 and moving to
Neillsville.
Surviving her is a daughter, Mrs. Darrel (Edna) Tompkins, Neillsville; a
half-sister, Mrs. Arthur (Edith) Ampe, Neillsville; two grandchildren; and four
great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, December 9, 1964;
a son, Harold; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held on Monday morning, May 21, from the Gesche Funeral
Home in Neillsville with the Rev. Maynard Stokka officiating. Music offered by
Virginia Gassen. Pallbearers were Ted Dux, DeWayne Dux, Bernard Walker, Robert
Schoengarth and Merlyn Schoengarth. Burial was made in the Neillsville City
Cemetery.

Lueck, William F. (29 April 1898 – 27 May 1984)
William F. Lueck, rural Neillsville, died Sunday, May 27, at Neillsville
Memorial Hospital. He was 86.
The deceased was born on April 29, 1898, in the Town of Weston to Albert and
Otillie (Schoenherr) Lueck. He received his education in Weston’s Fairview
School and then farmed the rest of his life in the Town of Weston. He served on
a school board for many years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran
congregation. He never married. He retired from farming several years ago but
continued to live on the farm. Last November he moved, due to failing health, in
with a sister. Surviving him is his sister, Mrs. Henry (Bertha) Stiemke,
Neillsville.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, May 30, from Globe’s Immanuel
Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ralph Stuebs officiating. Burial was made in the
church cemetery with the Gesche Funeral Home of Neillsville in charge of
arrangements.

Meyer, Helen M. (11 August 1904 – 23 May 1984)
Helen M. Meyer, 79. a former Neillsville resident, died in Pine View Nursing
Home in Black River Falls on Wednesday, May 23. She had been a resident of the
nursing home since December 1983.
The deceased was born on August 11, 1904, in Neillsville to William and
Elizabeth (Wilson) Free. After her Neillsville education she worked at a
northern Wisconsin bank for a few years. She then married M.I. Meyer and the
couple made their home in Neillsville.
Mrs. Meyer then worked for the Neillsville Condensary for many years. Upon
retirement, she continued to live in Neillsville. About seven years ago, she
moved to Hixton.
Surviving her, besides her husband, is a brother, George Free, Hamilton,
Montana. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Graveside services were held on Saturday morning, May 26, at the Neillsville
City Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ officiated
with the Gesche Funeral home of Neillsville in charge of arrangements.

Modersohn, Erville E. (5 May 1926 – 22 May 1984)
Erville E. Modersohn, 58, of 105 W. Seventh St., Neillsville, died on Tuesday,
May 22, in Neillsville Memorial Hospital.
Modersohn was born on May 5, 1926, in Ladysmith to Ernest and Tillie (Kuenkel)
Modersohn. He received his education at Globe’s Worchel School and then farmed
in the Town of Hendren for many years. He never married.
After the death of his mother, he moved to Neillsville where he remained the
rest of his life.
Surviving him are two sisters, Mrs. Lewis (Dorothy) Riter of Stanley and Helen
Modersohn of Neillsville.
Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon, May 25, from the Gesche Funeral
Home in Neillsville with the Rev. Ralph Stuebs officiating. Burial was made in
the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery at Globe.

Paulson, Arthur E. (12 July 1898 – 25 May 1984)
Arthur E. Paulson, 85, a long time Neillsville drug store employee, died on
Friday morning, May 25, in Neillsville Memorial Hospital. He had been a resident
of Memorial Home for the past several years.
The deceased was born on July 12, 1898, in Nasonville to Peter and Edith
(Anderson) Paulson. He received his education in Nasonville schools and then
worked on his parents’ farm until moving to Neillsville. He then worked in
Paulson’s Garage for several years. Later, Paulson began work at Kearn’s Rexall
Drug Store and was employed there for many years, retiring in 1968. He never
married.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning, May 29, from the Gesche Funeral
Home in Neillsville with the Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ
officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Zager, Frank (8 September 1920 – 19 May 1984) With Flag
Frank A. Zager age 63, a former cheese maker and agribusinessman, of Rt. 3
Neillsville, died on Saturday, May 19, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
The deceased was born on September 8, 1920, in Willard to Peter and Mary
(Glovan) Zager. He received his education in Willard schools and then worked in
that area for a short time. He then moved to Milwaukee and Cleveland, Ohio,
where he was employed until entering the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the
Pacific Theatre, attained the rank of Pfc and was discharged in 1945.
After his military stint, Zager worked as an auto mechanic in Marshfield. On
June 14, 1947, he married Ethel Ormond in Globe ceremonies.
Zager and his brother then operated a cheese factory for a short time. He later
worked for Bowman Dairy and Neillsville Milk Products for several years. Other
employment included 14 years as owner and operator of the local Surge Service
and ten years with Nelson Filter. He was a member of the Wilson-Heinz VFW Post.
Surviving him, besides his wife, are two sisters, Mrs. Matt (Ann) Merlak of
Loyal and Mrs. Edward (Elsie) Perko of Willard; and two brothers, Peter of
Neillsville and Robert of Sauk Rapids. He was predeceased by his parents and two
sisters, Mary and Irene.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, May 22, from the Gesche Funeral
Home in Neillsville with burial in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Rev.
Michael Mertens of Greenwood officiated. Pallbearers were Walter and Ronald
Ormond, Robert Petkovsek, Mark Merlak, Edward Perko, Jr., and Norman Poppe.
Graveside military rites were offered by the local VFW and American Legion
posts.

Zank, Paul W. (25 December 1910 – 23 May 1984)
Paul W. Zank, 73, a lifetime Town of Pine Valley resident, died in Neillsville
Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, May 23. He made his home at Rt. 2 Neillsville.
The deceased was born on December 25, 1910, in the Town of Pine Valley to Otto
and Anna (Dux) Zank. He received his education at the Grandview School and at
St. John’s Parochial in Neillsville. He then farmed and continued that
occupation in the Town of Pine Valley for the rest of his life. He was a member
of St. John’s congregation.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 26, from St. John’s Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Neillsville with the Rev. Norman Lindloff officiating.
Offering music at the service were Paul and Beth Tess. Burial was made in the
Neillsville City Cemetery, with pallbearers Carl Zank, Fred Dux, Ernest
Schwellenbach, Melvin and Irvin Marg and Roger Kadolph. The Gesche Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements.

Ziegler, Art E. (14 May 1911 – 22 May 1984)
Arthur E. Ziegler, 73, a former resident of the Town of Seif, died of an
apparent heart attack at his Marion home on May 22.
Funeral services were held on May 28 from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marion
with burial made in Neillsville City Cemetery. The Rhodes Funeral Home of Marion
was in charge of arrangements.
(On May 24, Arthur Ziegler’s son, DuWayne, 50, died of cancer in Redlands,
California.)
The deceased was born in Neillsville on May 14, 1911, to Edward and Ida (Ratsch)
Ziegler. On October 20, 1931, he married Marion Zajac The couple farmed in the
Town of Seif until 1957 when they moved to Marion where they operated “Zig’s
Night Club.” They retired from that business about ten years ago.
He is survived, besides his wife, by a daughter, Erline VandeBerg, formerly of
Neillsville and now of Nevada; two sons, Eldon of Wausau and Dwight of Green
Bay; 16 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Joining them are two
brothers, Marvin and Louis, both of Neillsville; and a sister, Dorothy Kluckman,
Neillsville. Preceding him in death was son, DuWayne; and a sister, Erna Seif,
Neillsville.
