Biter, Mary (15 Mar 1850 - Mar 1906)

Mary Lalone was born at Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., March 15, 1850. She came to Pine Valley, Clark Co., Wis., in 1868, where, after two years, she married Joseph Biter, July 3rd, 1870. After their marriage they settled on a farm in Pleasant Ridge, where she lived an industrious and happy life, sharing cheerfully all the trials and hardships of pioneer life with her husband. To them no children were born, but her mother heart went out to a little girl, whom they adopted and cared for with true maternal affection. This adopted girl, now the wife of Mr. Stoffle, mourns the loss of a kind and loving mother.

In Dec. of 1904, Mr. Biter and his wife planned to take life a little easier, after about thirty-four years of hard work on their farm. Mrs. Biter went to California in Dec. of 1904, where she was joined by her husband in June of the following year. Together they traveled through Washington and concluded to settle down, for a time at least, in the city of Portland, Ore., where they were living at the time of her death.

Mrs. Biter leaves to mourn her sudden departure, a husband, an adopted daughter, one sister who lives in Portland, and two sisters and a brother living in St. Lawrence, N.Y.
