Tolford, Minnie (6 Apr 1868 - 17 Sep 1908)
On Thursday night, Sept. 17, 1908, Minnie Tolford passed quietly away at the end of a long and weary illness. Only those who have watched over and cared for her all the years of her sickness know what she suffered and her patient hope alternating with calm resignation.
Minnie Tolford was born in Madison, Wis., April 6, 1868. She came here (Neillsville, Clark County) with her parents Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Tolford when a little girl, grew to womanhood here, passed through the city schools and became a successful teacher. Though somewhat retiring in manner, her rare good sense, ladylike ways and sweetness of disposition made her loved by all who knew her, especially by that group of close friends who chanced to know her well. Her mind was ever keen and alert to the best of the world’s literature and the better phases of human thought however expressed.
After spending three years in Oregon and California she returned home five years ago stricken with a fatal disease which baffled medical and surgical skill and careful nursing. While death has brought her merciful release, it has left an aching void in the home, and many are the expressions of sympathy for those bereft.
The funeral services were held at the home Saturday morning under the auspices of the Order of the eastern Star of which she had long been a faithful and prominent member. The remains were taken to Madison, accompanied by the father and brother, R.H. Tolford, burial taking place there in the family lot.
