Gerhardt, William Sr. (20 Mar 1825 - 1 May 1909)
William Gerhardt, Sen., died at the home of his nephew, William Gerhardt, Jr., in the town of Grant, Clark County, Saturday evening, May 1, 1909. Deceased was born in Saxony, Germany, March 20, 1825. He came to this country fifty-four years ago, making his home with his brother, Gottlieb Gerhard, in Washington Co. until he died seventeen years ago, when he came here to live with his nephew, living there until he death. He never married. He was a man of the highest Christian character, a type of the best citizenship and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was for many years a member of the M.E. Church. The funeral was held Wednesday at the house, Rev. W. P. Burrows officiating.
