Ruether, John (16 Feb 1864 - 22 May 1937)
John Ruether, a former well known farmer of this vicinity, passed away at the hospital in Aberdeen, S.D., Saturday, morning, May 22, 1937, of Pneumonia.
Mr. Ruether was born Feb. 16, 1864, at Rhede, Hanover, Germany, where he spent his childhood and early youth. When 18 years old he came to the United Sates to live with relatives at St. Louis, Mo. In 1894 he was married to Elizabeth Kemlage, also of St. Louis. They made their home there until 1912 when they came to Greenwood, Clark County and purchased the Meier farm northwest of Greenwood. Eight years later they sold the farm to C.H. Saucerman and moved to a farm 5 ½ miles west of Aberdeen. Mr. Ruether was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Surviving are three sons and three daughters, Al Ruether, Bath, S.D.; Mr. C.D. Lingor, Aberdeen, S.D.; Mrs. Geo. Silvernail, Aberdeen, S.D.; Ed Ruether, Denver, Colo.; George Rueth, at home; Elizabeth Ruether, Aberdeen, S.D.; one granddaughter, Germaine Lingor; one brother, Englebert Ruether, and one sister, Mrs. George Schulte, both of St. Louis, Mo. His wife and two sons have died.

John Ruether was my grandfather and he married Elizabeth Kemlage Ruether 1 Feb. 1870. I would like to know if anyone out there could help me with research on the Ruethers before they came to the U.S.A.My mother Frances was born in St. Louis but before they came to Mo., they homesteaded in Greenwood,Wi.Would like to know about what John did in Wisconsin. Any help would be Appreciated. Thank You, Dick

I have some photos taken around 1919-1923 of a family with the last name of RICHT. On the back are the names of Frances and Marie and also Frances Ruether.
