Photo: Neillsville, Wis., Brauer Clothing & Federal Dept. Stores
From the collection of J. L. Flynn--1901 Hampstead Dr., Columbus, Ohio, with references from Steve Roberts
The store on the left is Bob Brauer’s Nu-way Clothing Store in operation in
Neillsville from 1914 to 1934 located at present day 522 Hewett Street.
The next store is Sniteman’s Drug Store. Prior to this photo you will find it
referenced as the Mammoth Silver Front Drug Store before being referenced as the
Federal Drug Store as in this photo. Sniteman’s Drug store through various
owners was located at 528 Hewett Street from 1883 to 2022 when it moved into
Neillsville’ New Hospital, where it is still in operation.
The edge of the building in the picture above is the Commercial State
Bank which was
located at 534 Hewett Street. This building’s exterior was remolded in 1917 to
the appearance seen in this photo. The Commercial State Bank celebrated its
Grand Re-Opening 10/11/1917. This bank was begun in 1898 and lasted until 1925
when it became the Dairy Exchange Bank before being absorbed by the Neillsville
Bank.
Best guess this photo dates to c1920. Steve Roberts, Clark Co., WI
