Loy, Joseph (1884? - 20 Jun 1909)
Sunday morning Joseph Loy, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Loy, who lived about four miles up Black River, left home saying that he was going down to the mouth of Mound Creek fishing. As he did not come home in the evening the family became uneasy and began to look for him, the neighbors joining in the search which continued all night. About eight o’clock Monday morning his father found the body in Mound Creek lying in about a foot of water. Some six years ago Joseph received a gunshot wound in the head; after that time he had several fits but had had none for three years. It is supposed that one of these fits had come upon him suddenly as he walked along the creek or else he had been overcome by the heat. The day was very warm and in the thick underbrush where no breeze could reach him, he might have become sun struck. It was a most sad occurrence and his parents are overcome with grief. Joseph was twenty-four years of age and was born and brought up close to Neillsville, Clark County. He was a good young man, kind to his parents, cheerful and helpful to all about him. The funeral was held Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church in this city, Rev. N.F. Chapman officiating.
