Phillips, William A. (24 Apr 1874 - 24 Dec 1909)
William A. Phillips, formerly well known to many people in this vicinity (Clark County, Wis.) died of consumption Dec. 24, 1909, at Santa Cruz, Cal.
He was born at New Hampton, Chickasaw Co., Iowa, April 24, 1874, being the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. William Phillips, Sr. When he was eight years of age his parents moved with their family to Shortville, Clark County, where he grew up and lived until eleven years ago. He lived in Neillsville for a short time and then went to Langford, N.D. In 1896 he was married to Miss Jessie Gibbins of Shortville, who with their son Ray, survives him. About a year ago he went to Cal. In hopes of checking the disease that had taken hold upon him, bu the removal failed to have the desired effect. Besides his wife and son he leaves one brother, J.E. Phillips of Milwaukee, and one sister, Mrs. D. Taylor of Shortville. He was buried at Santa Cruz Dec. 27. He was a good man in every sense of the word, one who was like and respected by all who knew him well. Many here will mourn his death as that of a personal friends.
