Welch, Mary (7 Sep 1860 - 28 Mar 1910)

Mrs. John Welch was born Sept. 7, 1860 at Lansing, Mower, Co., Minn. and came to Neillsville, Clark County with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I.M. Rogers in 1870, settling near James Furlong. Mrs. Follette was teaching in the old blue school house at the time and among the scholars were Maria O’Neill, Viola French, Ida Austin, Mamie Dewhurst and the Blakesley boys. Her mother moved to Loyal where Mary was united in marriage to John Welch of Neillsville on Sept. 15, 1878, when they moved to Kansas, where they have since made their home. Death resulted from a stroke of paralysis, which she suffered a year ago. She had had the best of care and had been in Hot Springs, Ark., then Kansas City Sanitarium, until the 23rd of March, when her husband took her home to 606 Maple St., Ottawa, Kan., where a dear sister, loving husband and family did all that loving hearts and willing hands could do to ease her suffering, when bidding them all good bye she clasped her hands and seemed to sleep away so restful until the spirit took its flight at 6:30 p.m. Mar. 28, 1910. She leaves to mourn her loss a loving husband, seven sons and one daughter, aged 9, a sister in Chicago, Isaiah Rogers, a brother in Iowa, one brother Alph in Ill., Mrs. P.W. Gear, Mrs. P.W. Clow, Mrs. E.W. Rogers, Mrs. Joe Bruley, Mrs. G.F. Clouse, Ed Clouse and Mrs. M.R. Nichols, all of Wisconsin. Her thoughts seemed to turn to the dear old friends and the Wisconsin home and Neillsville, which she wished so much to see, and all the old friends of her youth.
