Trewalts, Chester (? - 30 Jun 1910)
Chester Trewalts, a young man about eighteen years of age, was killed by the early morning train just west of Chili, Clark County, Jun 30, 1910. Deceased had been working in the furniture factory and immediately after the fire, he and a companion by the name of Paulsine went to Marshfield to try for a job there. It seems they had very little money and could not buy a ticket back, but got on the cars without tickets; as they stood out in the vestibule some of the trainmen told them they must go inside. From some remarks of the men on the train the boys May have thought that they were liable to be arrested for getting on without tickets. Paulsine went inside as directed, but Trewalts remained in the vestibule and shortly after disappeared. The train was stopped and backed up a short distance, where his mangled body was found. It is suppose that he attempted to jump off and thus met his death. The remains were brought to Neillsville and sent for burial to Viroqua, where his parents live.
District Atty. Crosby had a precept issued by Justice Campman, and a jury, consisting of Aug. Snyder, Louis Seif, Frank Breed, W.M. Huntley, John Carter and Ed Hoey, found a verdict of accidental death.
