Shummel, George (1823? - 17 Oct 1910)

George Shummel, one of the oldest men in this community (Neillsville, Clark County), died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Westphal, Oct. 17, 1910, aged 87 years. For many years Mr. Shummel was a hard working industrious man, but old age and poor health have for some time past limited his activity. He was a native of Germany, but came to this country when quite young.

His fist wife, whose maiden name was Charlotte Buss, died some years ago. To them were born seven children, five of whom, namely George, James, Dan, Elizabeth and Esther, are living. His second wife survives him.

The funeral was held last week Wednesday at Pleasant Ridge, Rev. W.P. Burrows officiating.
