Southard, Asa V. (3 Jul 1831 - 16? Jan 1912)
(First part of Obit cut off) one half with hot water and sugar, his cold being so bad that he did not distinguish by smell or taste, that it was not brandy, till the family discovered the mistake. A physician was called, and arrived in about twenty minutes, but he died before the doctor came.
Asa Varney Southard was born at St. Albans, now a part of Hartland, Somerset Co., Maine, Jan. 3, 1831, where he grew to manhood. He married Helen Townsend, Jul 3 1851?, who survives him.
He served in the Civil War. About twenty-eight years ago they came to Neillsville, Clark County, which has been their home ever since. He was a man of sterling honesty, trusted and liked by all who knew him; a kind husband and father and an accommodating and helpful neighbor.
Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his death eight children: Mrs. May Rose of Neillsville, Mrs. Fred Elder of butte, Mont., Warren, Herbert, William and John at home, Mrs. Della Jennings and George in the state of Washington. He leaves also a brother William, who lives here and who is eighty years old, and five half-brothers: Charles, Warren, Daniel, Calvin, and twelve grandchildren. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 o’clock at the home, Rev. Prucia preaching the funeral sermon.
