This Sketch of Freeman Silase Stafford was drawn in 1917 by Eben
E. Lawson at the time Stafford was called for his WWI physical
examination. Freeman was born in
Sec. 5, Beaver Twp.,
Greenwood, WI, 23 Feb 1896. His father died in 1898
and 12 Nov. 1900. The family became boarders in the home of
Anton Larson at Lake Lillian, MN.
His mother married Ewin H. Olson 30 Oct 1901, but the marriage only lasted 345 days because Anna Cecelia Stafford, passed away 22 Oct 1901. Freeman and his older sister, Ella, then lived with Ole and Elen Mary Solmonson, who were some of the early Scandinavian settlers of East Lake Lillian Township, Kandiyohi, Minnesota (about 220 miles west of Freeman's birth home). |
Freeman Silas Stafford was born Feb. 23, 1896 at Greenwood, Wis. His parents died when
he was a little boy and ever since that time he has made his home with his
uncle, Ole Solmonson, who resides in Lake Lillian township. The day for the
funeral is undecided at this writing. The funeral will be conducted at the
Tromso Lutheran Free Church and Rev. A. M. Arntsen will officiate. Mrs. Hilmer O.
Hawkins (Ella Melissa Stafford, b. 16 Mar 1891) of Kelly Lake is a sister of the deceased.
