Schuster, Herman (1831? - 18 Jul 1913)

Herman Schuster, for many years an honored citizen of Clark County, died at his home at Kirkland, Wash., Jul 18, 1913, aged 82 years.

Mr. Schuster was born in Germany and came to New York when 16 years of age. He grew to manhood there and married Mary L. Cannon, and lived in the East till 1873, when they came to Clark County, Mr. Schuster taking a homestead in the town of Washburn. He was elected assessor of the town soon after and in his official work became acquainted with an abstract firm in Neillsville and entered their employ. Soon after he was elected Register of Deeds and served in that office sixteen years. He then engaged in abstract work again, first with E. M. McConnell and later with C.F. Grow and his son, J.F. Schuster. In 1904 he went west to live, developing a beautiful home at Kirkland, one of the suburbs of Seattle.

Mr. Schuster was a man of rarely fine character, and was loved and trusted by all who knew him. He was fond of his home and family and the better and higher things of life. It was the writer’s good fortune to know his quite intimately, for a year being associated with him daily, and never know of his doing a dishonorable act nor uttering a word not in keeping with a high type of gentlemanliness.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife; two sons, J.F. Schuster of this city and Herman D. of Kirkland, and three daughters: Mrs. L.H. Marsh, Mrs. H.C. Peters and Mrs. Gwynn Bury, all living in the west.
