Hewett, Harry/Elizabeth (Silver Wed - 30 May 1913)

Friday evening the sheriff’s residence was a scene of one of the happiest gatherings ever seen in Neillsville, Clark County, the occasion being the twenty-fifth anniversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hewett. At 6:30 the assembled guests, to the number of more than eighty, sat down to a bountiful four-course dinner, after which there was music and some old time dances. One feature of the music especially worthy of mention was singing, the first number being an old song so appropriate to the occasion, "Silver Threads among the Gold."

Among the guests were Mr. Robinson who lives on Mr. Hewett’s farm in Eaton, and Miss Esther Quast, also of Eaton, the former with a violin and the latter at the piano, aroused the quadrille and cotillion memories of some of the older guests and by the leadership of Mrs. McBride several sets were soon dancing vigorously, Mrs. McBride calling the changes.

Many beautiful presents in silver were brought in by visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Hewett proved themselves the most pleasant of entertainers, Mrs. Hewett being ably assisted by a number of lady friends.

Mr. Harry Hewett and Miss Elizabeth McKenzie were married here in Neillsville, May 30, 1888, Rev. W.T. Hendren officiating. They lived all their married life on their farm in Eaton, except a short time in the city of Greenwood, until Mr. Hewett took the office of Sheriff. He has lived over forty years in Clark County.

That this worthy couple May safely sail life’s seas for another quarter century’s voyage is the wish of their many friends.
