Wightman, Malinda ( 20 Sept. 1830 - 1 Jan. 1922)

Mrs. Malinda P. Wightamn, who died at home of her son, S. P. Wightamn in Pine Valley, Jan. 1, 1922, was one of the oldest residents of Clark County. She was born in Oswego County, New York, Sept. 20, 1830, and was 91 years, 3 months and 11 days old at her death. Her maiden name was Malinda P. Austin. At the age of 14 she came with her parents to McHenry County, Illinois. There she grew to womanhood and was married to Andrew B. *Wightman, Oct. 9, 1953. They lived in Woodstock, Illinois, until after the Civil War, when they moved to Fremont, Wis., where they lived till 1873, then moving to Clark County which has been her home since. She was the mother of six children, three of whom she made her home for the past seven years, Geo. A. Wightman of Hayward, Wis., and Mrs. Marcia H. Jordan, Laurel, Montana. Three sisters and one brother also survived her: Mrs. Hattie Spafford, Mrs. Rose Canfield and Neill Austin of Minnieville, Oregon, and Mrs. Adelaid Huthinson, Denver, Colorado, Grandma Wightman, as she was called by all her neighbors, was one of the most active, cheerful and intellectual old persons one would meet in a large circle of acquaintances, and all will surely feel a loss at her passing to the "great beyond." She was a member of the Methodist Church and greatly enjoyed reading her bible. Funeral services were held Jan. 5, Rev. W. T. Scott officiating. Burial took place in Pine Valley Cemetery.
