Shute, Frank A. (1933)

Kidnapped and Robbed

Last Saturday forenoon, F. A. Shute was held up and kidnapped while driving for Eau Claire, where he had drawn $2000 cash railroad pay checks, to his store in Altoona. Mr. Shute stopped his car, thinking there was a blowout, when a car drove up and two men forced him to enter. He was driven around for a while, robbed of the cash he had drawn from the bank, and left out on the highway near Cadott. An alarm was sent out immediately on report of the holdup, but no trace was found of the two men and they probably will never be apprehended.

Mr. Shute has made a practice of carrying money from the city for 30 years or more, except during his residence in Humbird, and this was his first holdup experience. The loss is covered by insurance.

Mr. and Mrs. Shute were visitors in town Sunday. Mr. Shute got a considerable kick out of the experience, but feels lucky to get out with a whole skin. While regretting the financial loss, all the old friends are glad to know he escaped with no personal injury.
