HUMBIRD ENTERPRISE (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.) 01/21/1922 Gaylord, George W.
(1819 - 13 Jan 1922) George W. Gaylord,
an old resident of Rockland, Monroe Co., Wis., well known in
Humbird, Clark County and vicinity, died last Friday afternoon at
the more than ripe old age of 102 years. He was born in
Perrysville, Cattaraugus Co., N.Y., and after coming west, was
married to Hester Ann Marcy, Jan. 17, 1848, at Willow Springs,
LaFayette Co., Wis. To this union were born eleven children, of
whom nine are living, Mrs. Frank Creviston being one of the
surviving daughters. The aged wife died nearly a year ago at the
age of 89 years. The family moved
from Mineral Point to Rockland fifty-three years ago, where he
spent most of his time, although excepting the past few years he
was a frequent visitor to his daughters' and grandsons' homes here.
He made his son's, J. A. Gaylord, his home for a number of years,
and it was there he quietly passed away. Mr. Gaylord served three
years in the Civil War, being honorably discharge at its close.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the M. E. Church at
Rockland, and a large congregation was present to show their last
respects to their old friend and neighbor. The remains were laid at
rest beside those of his father, a son, and the aged wife. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
