Fairchild, well known in this commUnity, Wisconsin, died at the hospital in
Eau Claire last Friday morning following an operation, after only a
couple of days illness. The following obituary is from the
Fairchild section of the Augusta Union: "William Penn
Monroe was born in Condersport, Potter Co., Pa., on June 19, 1854.
At the age of ten years he came with his parents to La Crosse to
live. They later moved to Jackson Co. He was united in marriage to
Miss Eva Bacon, daughter of Hiram and Hattie Bacon of Garden
Valley, Jackson Co., on Nov. 10, 1878. They engaged in farming at
once in Garden Valley and continued to reside there for thirty-one
years, then coming to Fairchild, Eau Claire Co., where thy have
since made their home. His sudden death is mourned by his widow,
two daughters, Mrs. Foster Bates of south Bend, Ind., and Mrs. Hugh
Buckley of Elkhart, Ind.; two sons, Fred of Hankinson, N. D. and
Lawrence of St. Paul; two sisters, thirteen grandchildren, and a
host of other relatives and friends. His son Arthur, preceded him
in death in Feb. 1922. Funeral services were held at the M. E.
Church Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. John Wilcox officiating.
