Garvin, William (29 Mar 1829 - 22 Sep 1918)

Mr. William Garvin, well known to the older residents of this vicinity died at Antigo on Sunday, September 22nd, at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 23 days. The deceased was born in Cork, Ireland, March 29, 1829, coming to Canada with his parents when four years old. In the year 1875, forty three years ago, he came to Clark County, settling on a farm in York, where he lived until he moved to the village of Loyal in the year 1906. For the past three years, he has lived with his daughter, Mrs. T. Pickle at Antigo. He was married to Miss Sarah Jane Anderson in 1851. To this union was born seven sons, Thomas of Portland, Oregon; William, Ed, and Sidney of Spokane (Washington); Albert of Dawson, North Dakota; Arthur of Baker, Montana; and Fred of Loyal. Two daughters, Mrs. T. J. Pickle of Antigo and Mrs. A. Ross of Pasadena, California. Mr. Garvin was one of the pioneers of the County, having come to the Town of York when it was almost a wilderness. He was a man that commanded the respect of everyone. The funeral services were held on Wednesday and he was laid to rest in the Antigo Cemetery.
