Cornwell, Ann Elizabeth ( 17 Oct. 1836 - 17 Feb. 1922)
Mrs. Orville Cornwell died Feb. 17, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. J. Spooner, in Portland, Oregon. Mrs. Cornwell , whose maiden name was Ann Elizabeth Palmer, was born at Diana, New York, Oct. 17, 1836. She was the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Harvey Palmer, her father later becoming pastor of the Methodist church here.
She was married to Orville Cornwell in New York Dec. 20, 1853. In 1866 they came to Clark County and soon settled on a farm on the west side of Black River in Pine Valley which was their home for many years. About 15 years ago Mr. Cornwell died and after remaining on the farm for three years she went to Minneapolis to live with her daughter, Mrs. Harry Ferguson, remaining there for 7 years, since which time she has made her home with the daughter in Portland. Mrs. Cornwell was a woman of a fine type of character, having the household virtues of industry and efficiency, devoted to the care of her home and family and still finding time for being neighborly and taking part in those things that made for pleasant community life. She was one of a group of old neighbors who for a long time gave to the community a certain friendliness that is not easily found. She was a woman of refinement and culture of mind and heart. She leave the two daughters mentioned, one son, Leland Cornwell, and thirteen grandchildren. Funeral service were held at Portland and the body was sent here for burial beside her husband in Neillsville cemetery. Brief services were held at the grave, Rev. W. T. Scott officiating. Those who were here for the funeral were Mrs. Harry Ferguson, Mrs. Kate Cornwell, Mrs. Walter Cattanach and Carroll Cornwell.
