Winner, Grant and Andrena Johnson (3 JUNE 1886-1936)
Married Fifty Years
On the morning of June 3rd, 1886, at the Winner farm, a mile and a half from Hixton, Grant Winner, then a dapper young man in the early twenties, donned his Sunday best, combed and curled his mustache, while the others of the family were busy about the house preparing a banquet, for that was to be the wedding day. The bride, Miss Andrena Johnson of Black River Falls, came, and the preacher came, too, the Rev. G. D. Brown, who pronounced the mystic words which united the happy young couple for life's journey, the fist fifty years of which terminated on Wednesday of this week, when Mr. and Mrs. Winner happily celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Mr. Winner is a native of Pennsylvania, and came to Wisconsin with the family, they being among the early settlers of Hixton vicinity. The bride of fifty years was born in Black River Falls. Their residence since marriage has been in this section of Wisconsin, Mr. Winner being employed as butter maker, in which trade he was quite proficient. For several years years they had charge of the Jackson county home. Both Mr. and Mrs. Winner are enjoying good health. Of the original wedding party, besides the participants, only one sister of each survives.
A family gathering at the Winner home Wednesday, together with the congratulations of their many friends and neighbors rounded out the half century of a happy wedded life.
