Pierce, George (19 FEB 1856 - 17 OCT 1936)

George Pierce

George Pierce, oldest son of Franklin and Margaret Gardner Pierce, was born Feb. 19, 1856, at Almand, LaPierre county, Mich., and came with his parents to a homestead on Beef river, in Eau Claire county, when ten years of age. On Sept. 1, 1887, he was united in marriage to Eunice Bills, who preceded him in death March 4, last. Their home was in this vicinity for several years, and then they moved to Taylor county, where Mr. Pierce was employed as filer in the saw mills. Returning to Humbird twenty-three years ago he worked at shoe repairing until old age necessitated his retirement. He died at the home of his son Henry on Saturday, Oct. 17, aged 80 years, 7 months and 28 days.

Mr. Pierce is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alice Mathews, of Janesville; on son, Henry, of the town of Hewett; two brothers, Austin, of LaCrosse, and Ben of St. Helens, Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Luik ad Mrs. Margaret Markham, both of St. Helens, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Free Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. A. E. Knaak preaching the sermon. Burial was in Mentor cemetery, six nephews acting as pallbearers.
