Roohr, Jacob L. (20 Dec 1848 - 14 JUN 1921)

Jacob Lewis Roohr was born in Mahoning Co., Ohio, Dec. 20, 1848 and died after about a year's illness at his home in Loyal, Clark County, Wis. on Tuesday June 14, 1921, at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 24 days.

Mr. Roohr enlisted in the Civil War at the age of eighteen in Co. D. 45th Wis. Volunteers, at Fond du Lac, Wis., and served under Gen. Thomas at Nashville.

After the war Mr. Roohr engaged in farming, living for 5 years at Green Bay, then he lived in Washington Co. for one year, and in 1887 came to Neillsville, Clark County, where he resided two years, from there moving to the town of Beaver, where he later bought a farm.

In 1873 he was married to Gertrude Steele, who, with nine children and twenty grandchildren, survive him. The following are the names of the children, George; Mrs. Mary Stowe; William; Mrs. Maggie Sumner; Anna; Fred; Jacob Jr.; John and Mrs. Hazel Goutcher.

Mr. Roohr was a kind husband and father and a man that was generally respected in the vicinity. For the past year he has lived in the village and has been quite the sufferer.

The funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the M. W. A. Hall and was largely attended. The American Legion attended as a body and acted as escort to the last resting place.

Interment was in the Loyal Cemetery.
