Sterns, Oscar (1852? - 23 Oct. 1922)
Oscar Sterns of Neillsville died in the County Asylum in Owen Monday morning, Oct. 23, aged about 70 years. He was born in Illinois and came here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Sterns, about 1856. They were among the earliest settlers at Weston Rapids. Later they moved to Neillsville where the father ran a heading mill on the present site of the Balch house, Oscar being active in the work. The business failed and all the years since have been a pathetic tragedy for the deceased; his health gave way and several years ago he was declared insane. His father, mother, brothers, Henry and Clarence, and sister, Stella, all died. He is the last of the family. A niece, Miss Ruby Sterns, of Duluth, is the only one left. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Longenecker officiating.
