Aumann, Mr./ Mrs. John (7 Jan. 1923; 50th Wedding Anniversary)

One of the most happy and unique family gathering was the golden wedding jubilee at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Aumann, residing in the town of Pine Valley two miles north of Neillsville on Monday, January 8. What made it a particularly happy occasion was the meeting with the parents of their twelve children, all men and women of sterling merit, strong and robust and filling useful places in the world.

At nine o’clock in the forenoon solemn high mass was celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic church in this city by Rev. Father Edward Aumann of Ft. Atkinson, one of the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Aumann, Rev. C. Achtelik of Greenwood acting as deacon and Rev. P. Weber of Neillsville as sub-deacon, the Aumann family, relatives and guests being present. Before mass the solemn high jubilee blessing was given by Rev. Aumann and holy communion was received during mass.

Before driving to the Aumann home the family all assembled at the photograph gallery and had a group picture taken. A bounteous dinner had been prepared at the home and around one table were assembled the parents and their twelve sons and daughters. The rooms were decorated in gold and white. The day was spent in social intercourse, recalling family reminiscences and giving to one another the incidents in their respective lives which would be of interest especially to those members of the family who had not met for some time. Under such favorable circumstances the day couple scarcely fail to be a joyous one, a day long to be remembered in the lives of all and one that will be bright spot in the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Aumann in their declining years.

Mr. John Aumann and Miss Caroline Kemmeter were married at Jefferson, Wisconsin, 50 years ago, on Jan. 7. They lived in Jefferson County until 17 years ago when they moved to Neillsville and purchased what was known as the Chandler farm, which has been their home ever since. They have proved themselves worthy citizens in every way and a valuable addition to this locality, devoted to their home, the church and the community. No mission in life could be higher then theirs and they have done well their work.

The following are their children: Joseph and John of Seattle, Washington, Frank of Jefferson, Charles of Neillsville, Rev. Father Edward Aumann of Ft. Atkinson, Catherine, Mrs. Fred Hrach of Pine Valley, Caroline, Mrs. Peter Wingenter, of Milwaukee, Tillie, Mrs. Walter Kniland of Delevan, Mary, Mrs. Wm. Gaden of Neillsville, Gottlieb of Milwaukee, Elizabeth, Mrs. Jacob Haas of Neillsville, and Henry at home. Besides these there are 20 grandchildren.

The other relatives present were Mr. Aumann’s brother, George Aumann, his sister, Mrs. Matt Suhr and her husband, all of Cashton, Wis.; Mrs. Aumann’s brothers, Gottlieb Kemmeter and John Kemmeter and his wife of Jefferson, and her two sisters, Miss Barbara Kemmeter and Mrs. Catherine Miller of Milwaukee.

As an appropriate gift the relatives gave the "bride" and "groom" a substantial remembrance of gold coin.
