Richard Nunemaker

Richard Clayton Nunemaker, 70, Colby, Wisconsin, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. The Rev. Mark Neumann officiated.

Richard Nunemaker was born May 21, 1933, on the family farm in Wakarusa, Indiana, to Vernon and Treva (nee Brubaker) Nunemaker. He attended Wakarusa schools. He married Fern Morningstar on Dec. 20, 1958 and they were later divorced. He worked for various businesses in and around Elkart, Wakarusa, and Nappanee, Indiana. In 1968, the family moved to Curtiss, where they farmed. He also worked for Teledyne in Owen, drove school bus for the Owen-Withee School District, and drove the milk can route for AMPI in Abbotsford. They later sold the farm and bought Jake Johnson's Tavern, Curtiss. He then started trucking for the Gulf Northern and later for the Dairyland Transport of Wisconsin Rapids. He retired to Colby, where he resided in the Midget City Apartments until his death. His interests included stock car racing and coon hunting, card playing, pool, umpiring softball for the Atwood Softball Leagues, and putting on turtle feeds at the bar.

Survivors include three daughters, Loretta Schultz, Colby, Phylis Untiedt, Curtiss, and Susan Nunemaker, Nappanee, Indiana; six grandchildren, one great-grandson; for sisters, Julia Staley, Elkhart, Ind., Carol Price, Howe, Ind., Waunita Fryman, Lebanon, Ohio, and Nancy Nunemaker, Sarasota, Florida; and two brothers, Earl Nunemaker, Girard, Penn., and Carl Nunemaker, Elkhart, Ind.

Community Funeral Home, Colby, assisted the family with arrangements.
