Mentges, John T. (26 March 1900-01 April 1986)
John T. Mentges, 86, 3500 S. Clay St., Allouez, died Tuesday evening at home
following a long illness.
He was born March 26, 1900 in Withee, Wisconsin to the late Theodore and
Katherine Mentges. He married Helen Bates August 18, 1956. Mr. Mentges was
valedictorian of his Withee High School class and graduated with high honors
from the Wausau Business College.
He was a stock broker in Wausau before moving to Green Bay in 1942. He was
founder of the Green Bay Soft Water Service, and remained its president until
his retirement in 1970. He was an officer and member of the Wausau Elks Club for
many years. He was a member and treasurer of the Green Bay-Preble Kiwanis Club
for 30 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Helen; four daughters, Pat (Dorothy) Coe, Hiaheh
(Hialeah?), Florida; Nancy Black, Washington C.N. Ohio; Jane Rathbun, Peace
Dale, Rhode Island; Mary Lea Yeager, Green Bay; 13 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren.
Friends May call at the Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., Friday where
memorial services will be held on Friday, Rev. Donald Ott officiating.
Entombment will be in the Shrine of Food Shepherd Mausoleum.
A memorial fund for the Bellin Hospice Home Care Program has been established
