Herman L Hemp was the son of William Hemp brother to Ludwig Hemp. William and Ludwig's father was Christian Hemp (b.1785) all of Prussia, Germany. Herman immigrated to America in 1869 and Mathilda Grahn his wife(Grahn with an "n") immigrated in 1870. They had many children including, William B, Otto Oscar, Hedwig, Helena, Herman, Elizabeth, Lenora, Josephine, Albert, Grace, and Francis. Herman L death certificate lists 15 children. Hedwig, Helena and Herman II died of Diptheria and are buried in Weston West Cemetery. Around 1878/8 the Hemp family moved to Wimbledon, ND. I have lots of information on the Hemp line and would be delighted to exchange information, photos, etc.

I am researching the Scheel and Kalsow families. Auguste Scheel, 1833 - 1914, was married to a F. Ludwig Hemp, 1830-1885. They had at least 10 children. Is this Hemp connected somehow to the Herman and Matilda Hemp? I think so but I can not figure it out. What was Matilda's maiden name?

Thanks for your help. I hope this posting and address are still working. James Tank
