COUNTY HERALD (Dorchester, WI) 12/20/1907 Heup, Mat (c. 1852
- 17 Dec 1907) Mat Heup, a farmer
who lives 4 ½ miles west of here, was fatally wounded in the
left leg, by an accidental discharge of Roy Crawshaw’s 40x82
rifle, while out hunting wolves near Smith’s mill last Sunday
about 1:30 p.m. The unfortunate
man was brot to his home and Dr. Nedry was called who, after
examining the wound, found that the leg had to be amputated, but
could not operate on it that day on account of the severe shock.
Early Monday morning Dr. Nedry called Dr. Crane to assist him and
they amputated the leg. Altho the operation was successful, he died
Tuesday night at 6 o’clock from the effects of having lost
too much blood before medical aid arrived. Mr. Heup was born
in Milwaukee and was about 55 years of age. He came to this county
some five years ago and bought the farm known as the old Klocke
place, where he has since lived. The remains were
taken to Sherwood, Wis., for burial. A wife and one little daughter
remain to grieve the loss of a good husband and father. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
