Stanley Metcalfe

Stanley J. Metcalfe, 70, Loyal, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 23, at Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal. The Rev. Bernard Raschke officiated. Military rites were conducted by the Loyal American Legion Post # 175.

Stanley Joel Metcalfe was born Sept. 3, 1933, in Belvidere, Ill., to Ray and Dorothy (nee Miller) Metcalfe. He was raised and received his education in Illinois, and then moved to the Spencer area as a young man and farmed with his family. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served during the Korean Conflict from Oct. 3, 1951 to Oct. 2, 1959. He married Anna Mae Dollen in 1953 in Chicago, Ill. They later divorced. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Spencer where he continued to farm with his parents. He then worked at the Loyal Cannery and at Black River Campers in Loyal for many years. He married Janet Wolf-Castner on Aug. 7, 1971 in Winona, Minn. He drove truck for lime company in Spencer before retiring. He assisted his wife, Janet, with her business, Jan's Upholstery, for many years. He resided in Loyal until the time of his death. His interests included spending time with his family and grandchildren, gardening, fishing, woodworking, and shooting pool.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Metcalfe, Loyal; his children, Sharon (Kenneth) Grendzinski, St. Cloud, Florida, Mary Williams, Epps, Louisiana, Elaine (Jack) Finnerty, Chicago, Ill., LeRoy (Nicole) Metcalfe, Jena, Louisiana, Amy (Kevin) Clark, Spencer, and Lola (Scott) Johnson, Alma Center; step-children, James (Trisha) Castner, Merrillan, Connie (Wayne) Smith, New castle, Colo., Carla Cox, Steamboat Springs, Colo., Kathy (Randall) Schmidt, Loyal, Christine (Roger) Zager, Owen, and John (Lori) Castner, Black River Falls; 29 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his paretns; one son, Allen Metcalfe; one brother, Roger Metcalfe; and one sister, Lola Kammer.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, assisted the family with arrangements.
