NEILLSVILLE PRESS (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 11/29/1923 Cook, John (12 MAY
1844 - 21 NOV 1923) John Cook, an old
resident of Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., died at his home here
Nov. 21, 1923, his health having gradually been failing for some
time. John Cook was born in Albany, N.Y., May 12, 1844; he was
therefore 79 years, 5 months and 21 days old at his death. When a
small boy he came to Dodge Co., Wis. with his parents and grew to
manhood there and engaged in farming. In 1864 he enlisted in Co. B.
44th Wis. Infantry and served to the end of the war. He was married
in 1880 to Mary Davis at Fairchild. They came to Neillsville 40
years ago and have lived here ever since, for the past 38 years
living in the home where he died. For 18 years Mr. Cook worked for
Thomas Lowe in the meat market and since then from time to time has
worked in the other meat markets of the city. He was industrious,
honest and accommodating, and all who employed him, or met him in a
business way, were his friends. For many years he was a member of
the local G. A. R. Post. He leaves his wife
and two children, Mrs. Wm. Kramer of La crescent, Minn., and
Chester of Davis Junction, Ill. Two other children, Charles and
Amy, are deceased. He leaves also two sisters, Mary Cook of
Minneapolis and Mrs. Alice Clason of Park Rapids, Minn. The funeral was
held at the Congregational Church Friday, Rev. George W.
Longenecker officiating. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
