AUG 1851 - 8 Dec 1923) August Nickel, one
of the older residents of the town of Washburn, Clark County, Wis.,
died at his home early Saturday morning Dec. 8, 1923, aged 72
years, 3 months and 13 days. He was born in Germany Aug. 25, 1851.
He grew to manhood there and in 1881 was married to Augusta Punzel.
They came to America in 1890 and settled on a farm near
Cannonville, which was his home until his death. He was an
industrious honest man, and was held in high esteem by all who knew
him. He leaves to mourn
his death his wife and five children: Mrs. Anna Stokes, Waterloo,
Wis.; Mrs. Johanna Strobush, Cambridge, Wis.; Mrs. Will Otto and
Mrs. Peter Hohenstein of the town of Washburn; and Mrs. Dan Palmer
of Fairchild; also one step-son, Herman Punzel of Cambridge. He leaves also 16
grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral was
held at Cannonville Church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. D. Grether of
