(18 JUN 1846 - 5 Jan 1924) John H. Hoover, a
pioneer of Clark County, Wis., passed away at the Wis. Veterans
Home Jan. 5, 1924, at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 18 days, of
a combination of diseases of which he had suffered a great deal for
3 weeks. He leaves to mourn his loss his widow and two children,
Mrs. Mary Severt of Merrill, Wis. and Joseph Hoover of Wausau,
Wis., also 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, besides a
host of friends. Burial took place Jan. 7 at the Wis. Veterans
Home, which was his wish. Mr. Hoover was
born in Wayne Co., N.Y., June 18, 1846. He enlisted in Company C.
25th New York Calvary in 1862, serving until he was wounded, then
being confined in the hospital until the close of the Civil
War. On being discharge
he went to his home in New York, later coming to Maple Works, Clark
County, Wis., and making his home with Mr. Nelson Marsh and family
for a short time. Later he bought some wild land in the town of
Lynn, making a fine farm. In the year 1870 he was married to Sarah
E. Pratt of Pine Valley, Clark County. To them three children were
born, Thomas J., who preceded him in death, Mary Severt and Joseph
